Two Police officers killed and four wounded during raid in impoverished neighborhood in Port-au-Prince

Two police officers were killed and four others were seriously wounded by bullets during an operation launched Monday in Martissant, one of the poorest areas of Port-au-Prince, confirmed the Haitian National Police (PNH) Spokesman for the West Department, Jean Ismagne Auguste.

The Police has not yet released the number of civilians injured, but has indicated that some 31 suspect were apprehended as part of this operation to restore peace in an area where the population lives under the constant fear of armed gangs.

Haitian Prime Minister, Jack Guy Lafontant, expressed on social networks his "sincere condolences to the families of the policemen" fallen in the operation in the impoverished neighborhood of Martissant, in the west of Port-au-Prince, in the framework of the fight against gangs in the area known as "Grand Ravine".

The conditions of the four wounded officers who were rushed to the nearest hospital have not been released.
