Two female officers of the United Nations police force in Haiti were found dead in their house on Wednesday, the UN mission in the country said.

These two officers are from the Rwandan contingent - there are police officers from 45 countries of the strong force of 2600 

A joint investigation was launched by the UN forces and the National Police of Haiti, working together to enforce law and order in the troubled country.

Sandra Honoré, the UN Special Representative and Head of Mission, expressed regret and offered condolences to the families of the deceased.

Both were killed in the night between December 29 and 30 in their neighborhoods in Cap-Haitien, Haiti's second largest city, in the north.
