The President of the Republic of China, commonly known as Taiwan, through the Ministry of foreign affairs, has sent a congratulatory message to the President-elect of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, whose victory was officially confirmed on January 3rd.

Haiti, one of only 22 countries that recognizes Taiwan as an independent country, is one of Taipei strongest allies since the two esstablished relationships 61 years ago. They have had close exchanges and collaboration on programs in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, public health and vocational training, the ministry said.

the note said Taiwan is looking forward to continued cooperation with Haiti's new government to improve the welfare of the people in both countries.
