Heavy rains and mudslides in the northern city of Archaie on Wednesday, has left at least one person dead and dozens injured, including five who are in critical conditions.

Archaie has been experiencing heavy rains lately and authorities are asking residents to stay on alert and to follow official instructions for evacuation, if necessary.

The five people who remain in critical conditions were transferred to the Albert Schweitze hospital in Deschapelles, department of Artibonite, according to officials.

At least five house were also destroyed.


Haiti is still recovering from the damages of hurricane Matthew last October;  573 people died and thousands were hurt, leaving the nation vulnerable to diseases and causing massive internal displacement.
