The Secretary General of La Francophonie, Ms Michaëlle Jean, welcomes the announcement of the final results of the Haitian presidential election. The outcome of this long and difficult electoral process marks an important step in the complete restoration in 2017 of democratic institutions and constitutional order in Haiti.
"I congratulate the Haitian government authorities, and especially the Provisional Electoral Council, for ensuring the smooth running of this long-awaited electoral event. I also wish to pay tribute to all the Haitian National Police personnel for their republican commitment; with the assistance of the Minustah, they enabled the Haitian people to fulfill their duty as citizens in a particularly delicate context. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the determination of Provisional President Jocelerme Privert in the conduct of this election, "said Michaëlle Jean.
La Francophonie has spared no effort, in conjunction with its partners, to support the electoral process in Haiti, through constant political action, personal involvement of the Secretary-General and quasi-permanent technical assistance.
In view of the many challenges facing the united Haitian Nation, the Francophone family has renewed its unwavering support and commitment to accompany all political, institutional and civil society actors in their combined efforts With a view to the timely completion of the remaining elections.
