Haitian airline Sunrise Airways inaugurated flights to Havana on Thursday with the arrival of Airbus 320 from Port-au-Prince to José Martí International Airport.
Speaking to reporters at the Havana hotel Saratoga, company president Philippe Louis Bayard confirmed that travel frequency will be twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, according to ACN information.
There is a friendship of two more centuries between Cuba and Haiti, and the exchanges can be extended, for which it is fundamental this airlift, said the entrepreneur after realizing the new connection between both capitals.
Sunrise Airways began its trips to the greater Antilles with the destination Santiago de Cuba, and then included on its route to Camaguey, hence Havana is the company's third destination in the country.
Geri Benoit, the Haitian ambassador to Havana, also made statements at the press conference of the Haitian airline Sunrise Airways, following its inaugural flight.
Benoit recalled the ideas and initiatives of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, who promoted Cuban missions in support of Haiti.
He commented that tourism is also part of the development, and described as wonderful the work done by the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, as a key factor for the city to be declared Ciudad Maravilla.
The diplomat said he works with the Cuban Ministry of Commerce and Foreign Investment to promote trade relations between the two countries.
He said that a meeting on solidarity and cooperation between Cuba and Caricom will be prepared for March, in order to promote the advance of the Caribbean region.
