The Haitian Parliament in unanimity Wednesday voted an amendment to the laws regarding kidnapping. According to the new legislatives, anyone found guilty of kidnapping or sequestration will be sentenced to between 30 and 50 years of forced labor, or perpetuity depending on the severity of the crime.
According to the President of the Senate, Yourie Latortue, the new laws took into consideration the new forms of communications by giving subpoena power to prosecutors over all electronics communications such as emails, text messages and phone calls.
People could also be prosecuted under the new laws for making even the threat of kidnapping.
