The Provisional President of the Republic, Jocelerme Privert, said in a statement that he is concerned about the recent flooding in the city of Cap-Haitien and surrounding area during the day on Saturday, November 5, 2016, following the fall of torrential rain causing an increase runoff in most streets of the city center and surrounding areas. Furthermore he regrets the loss of life and enormous damage in plantations.
In order to provide assistance quickly to the people of the far north, several actions are already underway to restart activities at the earliest. The Department of TPTC currently working to restore circulation while the DPC continues with damage assessment in the various affected regions. Furthermore funds to meet the initial emergency is available at the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to provide the first answers.
The Head of State wishes to reassure the general public and families affected in particular that the Government will continue to implement urgent and appropriate measures to accompany them.
He took the opportunity to invite local residents to be cautious, urging them to evacuate areas at risk, suspend maritime activities, avoid crossing rivers and above all to stay tuned for media safety precautions to consider during this period.
