Haitian Civil Protection warns of flood risks over the next 48 hours due to showers that began last night on several departments.

Officials of the Directorate of Civil Protection calls on the population, especially residents of areas at high risk of flooding and movement of land, to be ready because of rains expected these days over the country, according to forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Unit of Haiti (UHM).

The displacement of a frontal system on Cuba and the presence of a low-pressure center in the Caribbean Sea is currently influencing the weather in the Greater Antilles, said the UHM. This situation generates relatively wet weather in the area and could cause significant cloud with isolated, low to moderate rainfall on the country until the end of this week.

Today the showers are expected to increase in intensity in the departments of Grande-Anse, Nippes, North, North-East, North-West, West and South, approaching the frontal system.

The Directorate of Civil Protection calls for caution residents of areas at high risk of flood, landslide and landslide, including near gullies, water currents or other flood areas. She invites them to prepare or check their emergency kit for any eventuality, but also to place their important papers above the level that the water could reach, or if possible upstairs.
