A contingent of Dominican Police and some of the security personnels of the United States embassy in the Dominican Republic, have been deployed in front of the Haitian embassy in the Dominican Capital, Santo Domingo, since Monday, to guard the compound; a measure aimed at preventing violent protest such as those that erupted in Port-au-Prince over the week end, in response to a now cancelled decision of the Haitian Government to raise fuel prices by up to 50%.

In addition, more than 1.000 troops of the Dominican army have been deployed along the border, especially at the crossing in Jimani, were many businesses were vandalized during the unrests.
