The number of dead in Haiti from Hurricane Matthew continues to reach new heights. Haiti's civil protection has just updated the number of deaths from 108 to 284 as of Thursday night. A number that is very likely to increase as emergency response teams on the ground reach new communities cut off from the rest of the country due to either the collapsed of bridges and/or the blocking of main highways by mudslides, fallen trees and other debris.

Haiti's President have decreed earlier today a state of catastrophe to allow more ressources to be allocated to the 350.000 left homeless and clean up operations.

The South and Grande Anse departments are the most severely touched by Hurricane Matthew. It is estimated that 90% of the homes in these areas have been completely destroyed.
