With a population of tens of thousands Haitian immigrants, the South American nation of Chile, felt that it was very important to address the reported insulting remarks American President Donald Trump, Thursday, made regarding Haitians and Africans during a meeting with lawmakers in the Oval Office, when he questioned why the United States should allow immigrants from "shit hole countries" to come to the US.
Heraldo Muñoz, Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs released the following statement:

"With regard to immigrants from" shitty country ", Chile is proud to continue to receive several thousand Haitians and people from poor countries looking for a better future. Migrants to Chile come from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and other countries."

Since 2016, Chile has emerged slowly and surely as the second destination of Haitian migration, after the Dominican Republic. In South America, it dethroned Brazil, where lived a large Haitian community. For the 2017 fiscal year alone, Chilean immigration authorities said they welcomed more than 48,000 Haitians in the country.  As of 2018 Haitians made up 10% of Chile's foreign labor force.
