The lower house of Haiti's parliament has confirmed Jack Guy Lafontant as prime minister on Tuesday morning after more than 18 hours of debates.

Lafontant, a medical Dr, was confirmed by the members of the chamber by a 95-6 votes, with the abstention of two legislators. The prime minister was approved by the Senate last Thursday after a 17-hour session.

Monday, the Uruguayan Parliament took a vote to determine the faith of its troops in Haiti as part of the United Nations peace keeping mission, known by its french acronym MINUSTAH.
