Haitian Music Icons
Men and women, whom by their talents, efforts, sacrifices and struggles, have carefully; and precisely, shaped Haitian Music.
Haiti gave birth to Musicians that many hold dear to their hearts. They are respected, influential, and remain very much relevant, decades later, even though most of their songs are now considered "Classic".
We have carefully come up with a list of The top 20 Iconic Men, Women and Bands in Haiti's Music History; Selecting at least one person or band from each musical genre, and even if you are not a fan, you cannot deny their cultural and social iconic importance. If our musics are known beyond Haiti's borders, we must thank the pioneers who fought hard to make that possible.
They need to be formally recognized for their talents, the positive image of Haiti they portrayed around the world and the immensity of their cultural impact. We must assert ideas that would foster the younger generation to keep the process and also, give particular priority to the recovery of many ancient, classical, amazing, rare and precious music morceaux who unfortunately had vanished over just a couple of decades!!! We are all talking about rebuilding Haiti, but it is irresponsible to build a part of the country in detriment of another part. Our musics and culture should be part of the rebuilding process.
Musicians are one of the few writers of History; they have an acute vision of everything, and they are responsible to tell the future generation exactly what had happened , in their most creative ways.
Now the real question is: What do we want Music to say about us?
